This estimator produces a planning range, not a quote. Final pricing depends on the specific slab and its current yard pricing, actual measurements, layout and seam requirements, cutouts, removal, access and site conditions.

What Each Input Changes

  • Square footage drives the material and fabrication portion, which is the largest part of nearly every project.
  • Granite selection level matters more than any other single choice. Entry-level and exotic stones can differ by several times per square foot.
  • Edge profile adds machining time. Standard profiles are typically included; upgraded and mitered build-up edges are not.
  • Sink type determines cutout work. Undermount and farmhouse cutouts require more precision and polishing than a drop-in.
  • Removal of the existing surface varies by material — tile and stone take longer than laminate.
  • A stone backsplash adds material and its own measurements, particularly at full height.

Costs This Estimator Does Not Include

  • Plumbing disconnection and reconnection.
  • Electrical work, cabinet modifications or structural changes.
  • Tile backsplash installation or repair after tear-out.
  • The sink, faucet or appliances themselves.
  • Unusual access requirements such as long carries or upper-floor deliveries.

Estimator Questions

Is this estimator a quote?

No. It produces a planning range based on typical residential cost variables. A firm price requires measurements, a specific slab selection and a look at site conditions.

Why is the range so wide?

Because granite pricing is slab-specific. Two stones described the same way can differ substantially, and layout affects how much material a project needs. A wide honest range is more useful than a precise wrong number.

How do I measure square footage?

Multiply the length by the depth of each countertop section in inches, add the sections together, then divide by 144. Standard kitchen counters are about 25 inches deep including overhang.

What is linear footage for the edge?

It is the total length of the finished, exposed edge — the front of your counters and any exposed sides or island ends. Edges against a wall are not finished.

Does the estimator include plumbing?

No. Sink and faucet disconnection and reconnection are plumbing work and are quoted separately by the plumber handling that portion.
